New York (dpa) - In crisis areas such as Afghanistan, Somalia, Syria, South Sudan or Yemen, more than 29 million babies were born last year. According to the United Nations Children's Fund Unicef, every fifth baby in the world has spent the first part of his life in chaos, conflict, insecurity and stress. This often leads to the babies being malnourished and frightened, crying a lot, sleeping badly or becoming aggressive. But even the long-term consequences are catastrophic.
